FLAG IT! – Last day!

Today is the last day to see FLAG IT! an exhibition of alternative New Zealand flag designs at Depot Artspace.
In the next parliamentary term, 2014 – 2017, the people of Aotearoa/New Zealand will vote on whether their country flies a new flag. In the case of an affirmative referendum it will be ensured that the public can contribute design ideas.

The Depot Artspace in Devonport, Auckland, prepared for this process by hosting Flag It! – an opportunity for people to have their say and represent their country, identity and tūrangawaewae/sense of place. The exhibition of more than 50 designs for Aotearoa/New Zealand’s next national flag included work by Dick Frizzell, Otis Frizzell, Michael Smythe, Barry Brickell and Nigel Brown.

This lively and informative panel discussion was held during the exhibition opening. Featuring:
Dick Frizzell – Artist
Pamela Stirling – Editor of the New Zealand Listener
Hamish Keith (CNZM OBE) – Social commentator and art historian
Michael Smythe – Design strategist, historian and writer
