A Whole House for designers!

Whole House Reuse is an initiative that draws attention to the waste created by demolition processes. The aim of the game is to reuse all the materials from one house that has been red- flagged for demolition in Christchurch, New Zealand. The concept behind the aim is to highlight the waste of materials usually created by demolition and to offer an alternative.rekindle-in-chch_feature-e1346322322875

It is just one of many houses that have been damaged beyond repair but unlike most, many of which have simply been demolished and taken to landfill. This house has been donated by the owners to the project and will find new life by design and you can be a part of the process!

There is a design/integrity brief available on the project site here registration to the design stage is $20 or $50 including a beautiful limited edition book about the project. Submissions for the first round are due April 4.

Juliette Arnott of Rekindle talks about the process of  deconstruction versus demolition below.
