This audio recording of an interview with potter, author and railway engineer Barry Brickell was made at the Michael King Writers Centre during his residency in 2011. Barry grew up in Devonport and talks candidly in this interview about his favourite places, plants and people in Devonport and the social difficulties of an adolescent potter.
Barry now resides at his homestead, gallery, studio and railway at Driving Creek in the Coromandel.

The interview was interrupted midway by a friendly visit from author Graeme Lay.
